Categories, Criteria and entry details
Below are the categories which you can nominate a person or a company for an Award. You can also nominate yourself or your own business.
Each category details the evidence you will need to supply in order to support your entry. In addition to the specific requirements of each category listed below please supply further documentary evidence, accounts, cuttings etc to the Derbyshire Times Business Awards, 37 Station Road, Chesterfield, Derbys, S41 7XD. The deadline is 12 noon, Monday 7th September.

A panel of judges will review each entry and three finalists will be chosen for each category. All finalists will be listed in the Derbyshire Times and appear on this website. They will be invited to The Derbyshire Times offices to give a 5 minute presentation to support their entry in front of our panel of judges. The winners will be announced at a prestigious awards evening to be held on 12th November
Business Idea of the Year
The Award will go to the company/person who can present their idea, how it worked for the company.
Please provide a written piece of no more than 300 words detailing the essence of your idea and how the concept developed. Include information regarding the commercial success and details of any funding obtained.

Entrepreneur of the Year
This Award will go to the outstanding individual who can best demonstrate exceptional vision and leadership in the establishment and development of an owner-led business. The judges will look for clear identification of a market opportunity, innovation, growth and evidence of strong financial performance in terms of sales and profit growth.
Please provide a written description, in no more than 300 words, of your best ideas, applications and achievements.

Young Business Person of the Year
This category encourages nominations from any business, team or organisation who feel they have a young person aged between 16 - 25 years, who has excelled in their field during 2008/2009.
Please provide a written piece of no more than 300 words outlining your achievements.

Small Business of the Year - Sponsored by Derbyshire Enterprise Agency
Open to organisations with 15 or less staff, this Award will go to the company that best demonstrates significant growth and innovation in its market sector, under-pinned by strong financial performance.
Please provide a written article of no more than 300 words outlining the development of your business, services or products to show growth within a difficult commercial market.

Business Personality of the Year
This category is for those at a managerial or executive level who have impressed a sense of their own unique personality on the business, bringing their own style to bear alongside a sense of leadership and commitment to the business which has made a quantifiable difference to the firm.
A written article of no more than 300 words illustrating how your personality, enthusiasm and application has benefited your company.

Team of the Year - Sponsored by Graphic Results
The Team of the year Award is open to outstanding management teams. Judges are looking for management teams that are truly go-ahead, enlightened, innovative, and forward-thinking. The Award will go to the team that has created (or helped create) a highly successful business, or a team that has managed and led a successful project, deal or venture.
Please include up to 300 words detailing your achievements and show how each team member contributes to the success of the team effort.

Community Contribution of the Year
Through their commitment to the local area entrants for this award should show that they have actively supported the local community, schools or colleges. Entrants for Community Involvement will be measured on their specific participation and not purely upon financial support.
A 300 word written description of your most successful achievement is required highlighting the points above.

The Environment Award
Entrants to this category must show examples of what innovative action the company have taken towards a low carbon economy. Along with example you will need to show how you plan to maintain this action going forward.

Customer Service Award
This Award will go to the organisation that can best demonstrate that it has the customer at the heart of its business. It will need to show how it deploys and manages its resources to most effectively meet the needs of its customer base.

Business of the Year - Sponsored by Chesterfield Borough Council
This award is the ultimate accolade for all our entrants and the winner will be chosen from each of the category winners. The judges will be looking for the company/person who has shown the most enterprise, passion and drive in taking their business forward. Dedication and innovation will be key to the winner of this most prestigious award.
